Hello parents of Grades 3-4-5,
We have successfully completed a full month of school! I wanted to tell parents that 5 students will be bringing home books today as part of our Book Raffle from my classroom. If students, or the whole class, follow our school expectations (Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe) or the classroom expectations we as a group created in the first week of school, I will award students a red ticket and they can put the ticket into a draw for one of several books I have in the class. I will choose out a name at the end of every couple of weeks. The Grade 5 weebly is finally up and running. This website replaces the old wikispaces website I have used in the past to tell parents about things in the classroom. Any parent is welcome to look at it. The nightly homework is written on the Homework Page and I will often put videos on the site of things we have done in class. I also want to use the Remind app this year to tell parents about things that are going on in the class. Thank you to the parents that signed up for it. If you have not signed up, and would like to please go to https://www.remind.com/join/bbesg This week we finished our Elections Unit and voted for our local candidates in a mock Student Vote election. To learn more about what the program is, you can visit http://studentvote.ca/nb2018/ We also wrapped up the week by talking about Orange Shirt Day, about residential schools and how everyone matters. Due to the young age of our class, we did not discuss abuse but more the need for students to feel loved and cared for at school. We also touched on the issue of racism, which the Grade 5 class will explore more in depth during the English part of the year. If you would like to know more about the story we read, please visit http://www.orangeshirtday.org/. The students who have me for Math have been signed up for the South NB Sumdog competition. Students are welcome to participate at home. The login page is https://www.sumdog.com/user/sign_in. Our school code is bbes1 and each child has a unique username and password. If you child has forgotten their login details, please send me an email and I will email you that info back. I will save these emails to the weebly site so you can access the sites at a later date, if needed. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me via this email or the school at 755-4028. Have a great weekend,
